For more information see Baker Mayfield just got paid, but his new contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could give him even more motivation heading into the 2026 NFL season. The Buccaneers and Mayfield agreed to a massive three-year, $165 million extension, including $110 million in new guarantees and $150 million in total guaranteed money. The deal locks Tampa Bay's franchise quarterback into the organization for the foreseeable future while giving Baker another opportunity to prove that he belongs among the NFL's elite quarterbacks. Evan Winter breaks down why this contract could actually motivate Mayfield even more than he was already motivated heading into 2026. Baker has always played with a competitive edge and has repeatedly shown that he wants to prove himself. Now, after receiving one of the biggest contracts in the NFL, he has another reason to perform at an elite level: proving that he's worth every dollar of the deal. The contract structure could provide another layer of motivation. The reported 2029 portion of the agreement is a team option, meaning Tampa Bay ultimately has control over whether that final season remains in place. If Baker continues playing at a high level, however, the Buccaneers could have every reason to keep him beyond the guaranteed portion of the contract or negotiate another extension. And Baker's recent production gives Tampa Bay plenty of reason to believe in him. Since 2023, Mayfield has ranked near the top of the NFL in passing touchdowns and total passing yards, while also accumulating playoff success comparable to or better than several other highly paid quarterbacks. The deal also represents a significant moment for the Buccaneers organization. Tampa Bay has now committed major money to both Mayfield and Vita Vea, helping put to rest some of the questions surrounding whether the Glazer family would spend aggressively to retain the team's top players. With Mayfield now locked up, the Buccaneers can turn their full attention toward football. Was Baker Mayfield worth $55 million per year? Will this contract make him even more motivated?
The Buccaneers' 4-Man Pass Rush Could Change Everything

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering the 2026 NFL season with one major defensive question that could determine just how good this unit becomes: Can the four-man pass rush finally take a major step forward? Evan Winter breaks down why Todd Bowles wants the Buccaneers to generate more pressure without having to blitz, how that could change the entire defense, and why Tampa Bay may finally have the personnel to make it happen. Since Todd Bowles arrived in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers have been one of the NFL's more aggressive defenses. But outside of the early years of the current defensive era, the four-man pass rush has not consistently produced at the level the Bucs need. That has forced Tampa Bay to rely heavily on pressure packages and blitzes. The problem is that every time the Buccaneers send an extra defender, they create potential openings in coverage. If the four-man rush can't get home, opposing quarterbacks can attack those vacated areas or get the ball out quickly before the pressure arrives. Super Bowl LV showed the alternative. Against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, 24 of Tampa Bay's 25 pressures came from a four-man pass rush. All three sacks came from four rushers, and the Buccaneers generated a massive 45.3% pressure rate with four defenders rushing. That allowed Todd Bowles to play much more freely on the back end. Now Tampa Bay may finally have the pass-rush depth to recreate that formula. Calijah Kancey, Vita Vea and C.J. Robinson give the Buccaneers an intriguing interior combination, while Ruben Bain Jr., Yaya Diaby, Muhammad L3, Anthony Nelson and David Walker provide plenty of options on the edge. If those players can consistently win their one-on-one matchups, Bowles can use simulated pressures and disguises without necessarily sending extra rushers. And that could be the difference between an average defense and a top-10 defense. Can the Buccaneers' four-man pass rush finally become a strength in 2026? Let us know what you think in the comments.
The Buccaneers Might Be Making A Mistake With Their New Offense

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering the 2026 season with a new offensive coordinator in Zach Robinson, and there's one major question surrounding his new offense that could have a huge impact on the running game. Are the Buccaneers moving away from something that already worked? Evan Winter breaks down Zach Robinson's offensive philosophy, the Buccaneers' 2024 rushing success under Liam Coen, and why Tampa Bay's transition toward a more zone-heavy running game could be worth watching closely. During his time in Atlanta, Robinson's offenses were heavily zone-oriented, with the Falcons running zone concepts 76% of the time during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. That's interesting because the Buccaneers' running game actually became significantly more effective when Liam Coen shifted Tampa Bay toward a gap-heavy approach in 2024. After the Buccaneers moved to 59% gap runs following the Week 11 bye, Tampa Bay's running game exploded. The Bucs rushed for 1,095 yards over the final seven games, averaging 156.4 rushing yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry. Their EPA per attempt jumped to 0.07, while their positive play rate reached 52%. And that approach appeared to fit Bucky Irving particularly well. Now Zach Robinson is bringing his own offensive philosophy to Tampa Bay, and the question is whether he can make a zone-heavy rushing attack work with essentially the same personnel that thrived in a gap-heavy system. Is this simply a case of Zach Robinson bringing a different scheme to Tampa Bay? Or are the Buccaneers potentially making a mistake by moving away from what worked? Evan also breaks down what Tampa Bay has done during the 2026 preseason, including how the Bucs have used Bucky Irving, Josh Williams and No. 12 in their rushing concepts. What do you think? Should the Buccaneers stick with more gap/power concepts, or should they trust Zach Robinson's zone-heavy system?
The Buccaneers Have 3 MUST-WIN Stretches To Make The Playoffs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just days away from the start of the 2026 NFL season, and now that the roster and schedule are set, it's time to map out the path to the playoffs. Evan Winter breaks down three critical stretches of the Buccaneers' 2026 schedule that Tampa Bay needs to navigate if it wants to make the postseason. The first pressure point comes during the opening six weeks of the season. The Buccaneers have home games against the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers before traveling to face the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. Evan believes Tampa Bay needs to go 3-0 in those three games to build the foundation for a playoff season. The Vikings bring a dangerous group of skill-position players, while the Packers could present a much tougher challenge. Tampa Bay also has to travel to Dallas, making that Cowboys matchup the most difficult game of the opening stretch. The middle portion of the season could be even more important. The Buccaneers face five NFC opponents during this stretch, including three NFC South games against Carolina and Atlanta, along with road games against the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. Evan believes Tampa Bay needs to finish at least 3-2 in this portion of the schedule, with the ideal scenario being wins in all three NFC South games. That stretch is particularly important because of Tampa Bay's history of midseason struggles under Todd Bowles. Another prolonged slump could put the Buccaneers behind the playoff race before the final portion of the schedule even begins. Finally, Tampa Bay has to navigate a difficult closing stretch featuring the New Orleans Saints twice, the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Rams. Evan's baseline is 2-2, with the priority being wins against the NFC South opponents. Following that blueprint would put the Buccaneers at 8-4 after the first 12 games, leaving them with a clear path toward 10 or 11 wins and a potential playoff berth. Can Tampa Bay get it done? What is the most important stretch of the Buccaneers' 2026 schedule?
4 Buccaneers Players Who Could Make Their First Pro Bowl

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just days away from the start of the 2026 NFL season, and now it's time to look ahead at which players could take the next major step. Evan Winter breaks down four Buccaneers players who have a legitimate chance to make their first Pro Bowl in 2026. The first name on the list is rookie edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. After an impressive training camp and preseason, Bain enters the season as one of the favorites to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. Evan explains why history suggests that if Bain wins that award, a Pro Bowl appearance could quickly follow. Next up is Luke Goedeke. The Buccaneers offensive tackle has continued to improve throughout his career and enters the season without facing the same competition at right tackle that he has dealt with previously. With Tampa Bay's offensive line expected to be one of the team's biggest strengths when healthy, Goedeke has an opportunity to gain national recognition. Evan also discusses Calijah Kancey as a breakout candidate. Injuries have limited Kancey early in his career, but his explosive athletic ability and the talent surrounding him on Tampa Bay's defensive line could create the perfect situation for a monster season. Finally, Emeka Egbuka enters the conversation after showing flashes as a rookie. With a defined role at wide receiver and a better understanding of the Buccaneers offense, Egbuka could take another major step forward. All four players have one thing in common: they are in situations designed for success. Who has the best chance to make their first Pro Bowl? Reuben Bain Jr., Luke Goedeke, Calijah Kancey, or Emeka Egbuka? Let us know in the comments.
The Buccaneers Roster Has 1 HUGE Strength And 1 Major Concern

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finalized their initial 53-man roster and practice squad, but what does the roster actually look like heading into the 2026 season? Evan Winter is joined by Michael Pless from Real Bucs Talk to break down the biggest strength, biggest weakness, and most surprising decision from the Buccaneers' final roster. The biggest strength might be the evolution of Tampa Bay's front seven. The Buccaneers added depth, versatility and talent across the defensive line, edge rusher and linebacker groups, creating a unit that could become one of the biggest reasons this defense takes a step forward. But the biggest concern remains the secondary. Injuries, questions at cornerback and limited depth create uncertainty heading into a season where Tampa Bay will face explosive passing attacks. The biggest surprise? The Buccaneers choosing to move forward with Jalon Daniels over Jake Browning as Baker Mayfield's backup quarterback. Evan and Michael discuss why Tampa prioritized upside over experience and what that means moving forward. They also discuss: - Why the Buccaneers' defensive front could become elite - Whether the running back room is underrated - The questions surrounding Benjamin Morrison and the secondary - The decision to keep seven defensive linemen - Why Elijah Simmons making the roster was surprising What is the biggest strength and weakness of the Buccaneers roster?
The Buccaneers Should Sign These 4 Surprise Free Agents

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the middle of finalizing their roster, but the work doesn't stop once the 53-man roster is set. There are already several intriguing players available who could make sense as practice-squad additions for Tampa Bay, and Evan Winter is breaking down four names the Buccaneers should at least consider kicking the tires on. The first is former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman. The former third-round pick has 71 receptions for 833 yards and five touchdowns across three NFL seasons, and while things never fully came together for him in Cleveland, he remains a big-bodied X receiver with legitimate upside. Tampa Bay currently has Ted Hurst as its primary true X receiver, making Tillman an intriguing depth option if the Buccaneers can get him onto the practice squad. Evan also looks at veteran offensive lineman Rob Jones, who started 17 games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2024. Jones has experience at both guard spots and could provide Tampa Bay with additional interior offensive-line depth if he's healthy. Another option is Lucas Patrick, a veteran who has started 65 games during his NFL career and has experience at center and both guard positions. His versatility, experience and leadership could make him a useful emergency option for a Buccaneers offensive line that could use additional depth. The final name is former first-round pick Jamin Davis. The former Washington Commanders linebacker has also spent time playing on the edge and brings impressive athleticism and speed to the table. While Davis hasn't lived up to his first-round draft status, Evan explains why his talent could make him an interesting practice-squad gamble for Tampa Bay. None of these players are being presented as guaranteed starters or Pro Bowl-caliber additions. The appeal is the potential value: veteran experience, athletic upside and players who could potentially be developed or called upon if injuries create a need during the 2026 season.
5 Buccaneers Who Could Shockingly Miss The 53-Man Roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into their final preseason game before roster cuts, and while most of the 53-man roster appears to be taking shape, there are still several players who could surprisingly miss the team. Evan Winter breaks down five Buccaneers who could become unexpected roster casualties because of injuries, competition, and Tampa Bay's difficult roster math. The biggest surprise could come at quarterback. Jake Browning entered training camp as the experienced veteran competing for the backup quarterback role, but rookie Jalon Daniels has completely changed the equation. Daniels has impressed the coaching staff throughout camp and preseason, creating a legitimate question about whether Tampa Bay could keep him over Browning. If the Buccaneers decide to keep three quarterbacks, another position group could lose a roster spot. Evan also discusses Christian Roseboom, a veteran linebacker who was expected to provide depth but has struggled to stay on the field during the preseason. With younger linebackers like Josiah Trotter, John Bullock, Nick Jackson and Caden Fordham showing flashes, availability could become the deciding factor. Another surprising possibility is offensive tackle Justin Skule. Tampa Bay had expected Skule to provide veteran depth, but injuries and the emergence of younger tackles could force the Buccaneers into a difficult decision before final cuts. The secondary could also produce a surprise. DeMarion "Pepe" Williams has impressed during training camp and preseason, while Josh Hayes continues to provide special teams value. However, Tampa Bay's numbers at cornerback, safety concerns and the possibility of carrying three quarterbacks could leave only one roster spot available. Evan explains why these five Buccaneers could be among the biggest surprises when Tampa Bay finalizes its 53-man roster. Who would be the most surprising Buccaneers cut? Let us know in the comments.
5 Buccaneers Who Need A MIRACLE To Make The Roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering the final week of the 2026 NFL preseason, and several players may be running out of time to save their spots on Tampa Bay's 53-man roster. Evan Winter breaks down five Buccaneers who need a massive final week of joint practices and preseason action against the Jacksonville Jaguars if they want to change the current roster math. The biggest name is Chris Braswell. Tampa Bay selected Braswell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but the outside linebacker has struggled to establish himself as a consistent part of the Buccaneers pass-rush rotation. With Tampa Bay adding more competition at edge and young players making noise throughout training camp, Braswell entered the preseason under pressure to prove he still belonged. Now an injury has made his situation even more difficult. If Braswell cannot get back on the field and make an impact during the final week, Evan explains why his path to the Buccaneers' 53-man roster may be disappearing. Tight end Devin Culp is facing a similar challenge. Tampa Bay has multiple options ahead of him, and Culp needs more than an ordinary preseason performance to force the coaching staff into keeping another tight end. Then there's the quarterback room. Jalon Daniels has become one of the biggest stories of Buccaneers training camp after producing two strong preseason performances and leading Tampa Bay on three consecutive scoring drives against the Kansas City Chiefs. His emergence has created a fascinating roster question: Could the Buccaneers keep three quarterbacks? If they do, somebody somewhere else loses a roster spot. That makes Connor Bazelak's situation particularly difficult. Bazelak has shown development during his time with Tampa Bay, but Daniels has generated momentum throughout the preseason and may be forcing the Buccaneers into a decision nobody expected when training camp began. Evan also breaks down why offensive lineman Luke Haggard and defensive lineman Elijah Simmons could be squeezed out by Tampa Bay's roster numbers despite having previous experience in the Buccaneers system. With final cuts approaching, there may be no ordinary performance capable of saving these five players. They need to make coaches rethink the roster.
The Buccaneers Still Have One BIG Question Before Week 1...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers improved to 2-0 in the 2026 NFL preseason with a 16-15 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, but Evan Winter still has one major question coming out of Saturday night: What exactly is this Buccaneers offense going to look like when the regular season begins? Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay's first-team offense finally got preseason snaps against Kansas City, but the results didn't provide many answers. Mayfield completed two of four passes for 10 yards across two drives, and the Bucs' starting offense did not score. There is an enormous amount of context, however. Tampa Bay has dealt with injuries throughout training camp and was missing several important offensive pieces against the Chiefs. Tristan Wirfs was unavailable at left tackle, while the Buccaneers also entered the game without several of the receivers expected to play major roles in Zac Robinson's offense. That makes evaluating the first-team unit incredibly difficult. Evan explains why the lack of healthy practice and game reps is becoming Tampa Bay's biggest offensive question with Week 1 approaching. The Buccaneers don't necessarily need to reveal their entire offensive playbook during the preseason, but a team installing a new offense under Zac Robinson would ideally have more opportunities to develop timing, chemistry and consistency before facing the Cincinnati Bengals in the regular-season opener. The good news? The defense is giving Bucs fans plenty of reasons for optimism. Tampa Bay's starting defense forced consecutive three-and-outs against Kansas City and consistently attacked the backfield. Rueben Bain Jr., Yaya Diaby and the Buccaneers defensive front generated pressure, while Anthony Nelson continued to show why he's such a valuable part of Tampa Bay's pass-rush rotation with 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Roman Parodie also delivered one of the biggest defensive plays of the night with a fourth-quarter interception that helped set up Tampa Bay's go-ahead touchdown. And then there's Jalon Daniels. The undrafted rookie quarterback continued his impressive preseason by leading the Buccaneers on three straight scoring drives. Daniels completed 9 of 14 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, added 19 yards rushing and again showed the improvisation and poise that have made him one of Tampa Bay's most exciting preseason stories. Evan breaks down the biggest takeaways from Buccaneers-Chiefs, including the uncertainty surrounding Tampa Bay's starting offense, the defense beginning to find its identity, Anthony Nelson's strong night, Roman Parodie's interception, Riley Dixon's bounce-back performance and why the Bucs may have something brewing with Jalon Daniels.
The Buccaneers Have One BIG Test They Can't Ignore vs. Chiefs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are about to face their biggest test of the 2026 NFL preseason when the Kansas City Chiefs visit Raymond James Stadium, and Saturday's matchup could reveal a lot about some of Tampa Bay's biggest remaining defensive questions. Evan Winter is joined by A to Z Sports Kansas City Chiefs beat writer Charles Goldman for an inside look at what Buccaneers fans should actually be watching in Preseason Week 2. Baker Mayfield and many of Tampa Bay's healthy starters are expected to see their first preseason action against Kansas City, giving the Buccaneers an opportunity to evaluate their first-team offense and defense before the regular season arrives. Patrick Mahomes will not provide the opposing quarterback test Bucs fans might have hoped for, but the Chiefs still have several position groups capable of putting Tampa Bay's depth and young defenders under pressure. Charles explains why Kansas City's running backs and tight ends could create one of the most important tests of the night for Tampa Bay's linebackers. The Buccaneers have talent at the position, but there are still questions involving the depth and development of the group. Saturday offers another opportunity to see how those players respond against NFL-caliber receiving threats out of the backfield and at tight end. The matchup in the trenches could be just as revealing. Kansas City's offensive line had a penalty-filled preseason opener, while the Buccaneers have generated plenty of optimism along their defensive front. Evan and Charles discuss what Calijah Kancey, A'Shawn Robinson and Tampa Bay's young defensive linemen could accomplish against a Chiefs offensive line that may be missing some important pieces. Then there's the secondary. With Zyon McCollum unavailable and Benjamin Morrison's workload still worth monitoring, Tampa Bay could give major preseason snaps to Jacob Parrish, Ayden Garnes and other young defensive backs. That's particularly interesting against a Chiefs receiving corps loaded with speed, including Cyrus Allen and other vertical threats. Can the Buccaneers' young corners handle Kansas City's speed? Can Tampa Bay's linebackers hold up against the Chiefs' running backs and tight ends? And can the Bucs defensive front take advantage of Kansas City's offensive line? Evan and Charles break down the most important players, matchups and roster battles to watch before Buccaneers vs. Chiefs on Saturday night. What matchup are YOU watching closest?
The Buccaneers Are Caught In Some UNEXPECTED Drama...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suddenly have one of the strangest roster situations in the NFL involving rookie edge rusher Jack Pyburn, who could potentially leave the Bucs and return to college football for the 2026 season. Pyburn, who impressed Tampa Bay with two sacks during the Buccaneers' preseason opener against the New York Jets, is among a group of players challenging NCAA eligibility rules after recent court decisions opened the door for certain athletes to pursue another season of college football. A Louisiana judge granted Pyburn and several other players a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, creating a potential path for the former LSU and Florida edge rusher to leave the NFL and return to school. So why would Pyburn even consider it? Evan Winter breaks down the financial and football considerations behind one of the most unusual decisions an NFL rookie could possibly face. Pyburn is fighting for a spot in a crowded Buccaneers edge-rusher room, and his NFL earnings could vary dramatically depending on whether he earns a place on Tampa Bay's 53-man roster, spends the season on a practice squad or ends up elsewhere after roster cuts. Returning to college could potentially give Pyburn another opportunity to improve his draft stock, capitalize on NIL opportunities and attack a final college season with a different mindset after publicly acknowledging that he wished he had dedicated himself more completely to football earlier in his career. But will it actually happen? Evan explains why he still believes Pyburn ultimately remains in the NFL despite the unprecedented legal situation. Then there's finally some major good news for Tampa Bay. Vita Vea and the Buccaneers have ended their contract standoff after agreeing to a new deal that keeps the Pro Bowl defensive tackle in Tampa Bay through 2027. The agreement effectively gives Vea $48 million fully guaranteed across the next two seasons, including $24 million in 2026 and another $24 million in 2027. Evan explains why the compromise makes sense for both sides and why getting Vita Vea back on the field is so important for a Buccaneers defense featuring Rueben Bain Jr., Calijah Kancey and a revamped group of pass rushers. Would you stay with the Buccaneers if you were Jack Pyburn, or take another shot at college football?
The Buccaneers Have Two More Hidden Gems Emerging...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have found two more hidden gems in Ayden Garnes and Jack Pyburn, continuing an impressive trend under general manager Jason Licht that has quietly helped Tampa Bay build one of the NFL's deepest rosters. Evan Winter breaks down why Garnes and Pyburn's standout performances against the New York Jets weren't just fun preseason moments. Garnes delivered a pick-six and continued the momentum he's built throughout Buccaneers training camp, while Pyburn generated two sacks and strengthened his case for a spot on Tampa Bay's 53-man roster. But the bigger story is Jason Licht's track record. From Cameron Brate and Adam Humphries to Peyton Barber, Sean Tucker and other overlooked additions, the Buccaneers have consistently found useful NFL contributors outside the premium portions of the roster-building process. They don't all become stars and that's exactly the point. Finding starters, rotational players, special teams contributors and valuable depth without spending premium draft capital can make an enormous difference over the course of an NFL season. Could Garnes and Pyburn be the latest examples? Evan looks back at Licht's history of finding overlooked talent and explains why these types of discoveries have helped Tampa Bay maintain its roster depth. He also discusses Caden Fordham as another rookie worth monitoring as the Buccaneers move deeper into the 2026 NFL preseason. Then, the conversation shifts to the latest Buccaneers injury situation. Tampa Bay has several players dealing with injuries or working their way back, but is it actually time for Bucs fans to worry? Evan assesses the current level of concern and explains why Tampa Bay appears to be handling its injury situation relatively well despite several important names requiring attention during training camp. With the Kansas City Chiefs coming to Tampa for the Buccaneers' second preseason game, the roster battles are only getting more interesting. Can Garnes and Pyburn turn their strong starts into 53-man roster spots? And could Jason Licht have uncovered another group of long-term contributors?
